Lunchtime conundrum
Was having lunch with a new friend today. Second time meeting for eats. Wasn't moments after the steaming bowls hit the table that I got offered some to try. Which, if I'm honest I was a bit weirded out about. I know as asians we're used to offering food amongst family or close friends. but... I just met you! Is it just me? or is that a bit too soon to be swapping food? I did, in the end try some, but my mental jury is still out on that. They've been discussing the matter in a cramped little room for awhile now and no resolution seems to be near. Would love to hear if you have wisdom on this.

My first reaction was that a line had been crossed. But then I thought about some new friends I'd recently made and I could see this not being a problem if they'd offered me food, especially if it's a second-time makan together. Maybe it's how well you got along, and the walls you and your friend put up at first as you first met, and how fast you let go of them?
Honestly, i haven't had a new friend offer me food before. I guess... i would be surprised, but give the benefit of the doubt, and be cool with it?
if it's a new friend that i feel comfy with, i might offer a tasting of my food, but only before i've touched them. for really good friends, i show them my love by drooling over them, and confirm that it's nice before offering the best bits. ;)
haha oatsie cracks mighty wise
Beware the next time we eat together, oaties - you know how much you mean to me.
